Here’s a little bit more about how our Sports Nut Swim School Weekly Lessons work….
We launched Sports Nut Swim School back in 2009 and it’s fair to say that our weekly lessons have proved extremely popular! We work exceptionally hard to create more spaces for eager Sports Nutters to join us, but inevitably we do have long (6 month+) waiting lists in place at both our Davenies, Beaconsfield and Godstowe, High Wycombe venues, so please do get registered on our waiting list as soon as you can…
Remember, our lessons start for swimmers once they turn 4, and we do have plenty of 3-month old’s on our waiting lists already!
Please do have a good read of this page to become familiar with how our weekly lessons work, how to join the Sports Nut community, how and when we assess swimmers, what happens when it’s time to move up a level or how to request a change of time/day (eeek!), how and when to pay and eventually (when your super swimmer is safe, competent and has a lifelong love of the water), how to end your Sports Nut journey!
How Weekly Lessons Work
Sports Nut weekly lessons run within Buckinghamshire School term dates, which usually means we run around 38-40 weeks of the year. We also run Holiday Crash Courses during some selected dates in the school holiday’s.
We like to keep our class sizes small, with a maximum of 4 swimmers in our Level 1 & Level 2 classes and a maximum of 6 swimmers in our Level 3 – Level 6 classes. Each of these classes last 30 minutes. Our Level 7 & Level 8 classes form part of our Advanced Swimmer Pathway – these classes have a maximum of 6 swimmers and last for 60 minutes.
Once a super swimmer has attended a taster session, they will be allocated an appropriate class level within our Sports Nut Award Scheme to begin their swimming journey with us. Unlike most swim schools, we assess swimmers on a continuous basis, so swimmers move up a level when they complete all the necessary challenges within their level, rather than waiting until the end of term. This means that availability in classes changes weekly.
All weekly group swimming lessons are £18:00 (inc VAT) per lesson, paid monthly in advance by recurring secure card payment via a Member Hub account. Please note we are not a childcare setting and therefore cannot accept childcare vouchers.
How to Join the Sports Nut Community
So, you’ve heard/read about Sports Nut and decided we’re the Swim School for you…the first step in the journey is to complete our ‘Join Us‘ form.
Once we have received your completed form, we will be in contact to let you know that we have added your Super Swimmer to our waiting list and we will give you an indication of how long the wait for a taster session is likely to be.
We will contact you to arrange a suitable taster session for your budding Sports Nutter to attend…this is one of the most important steps in the journey as it gives you and your swimmer a chance to not only experience how we do things and where we do it, but also to allow any nerves and anxiety to be overcome before starting their learning journey with us. Crucially, the taster session enables one of our skilled swimming teachers to allocate a suitable level within the Sports Nut Award Scheme for your super swimmer to start at.
How and When we Assess Swimmers
Sports Nut use their own, bespoke Award Scheme to assess swimmers on a continuous basis. There are 8 levels within the Sports Nut Award Scheme, starting with Level 1 Sami the Seahorse and running all the way through to Level 8 Barry the Blue Whale!
Each of our Award Scheme levels is made up of a series of challenges, which swimmers need to master before moving on up to the next level. Each challenge will be marked (via a tablet) in one of the following ways:
- Not Assessed
- Needs Practice
- Fair
- Good
- Pass
Once our teacher feels your super swimmer has shown they can consistently perform each challenge to the required standard, they will be marked as ‘passed’ and will be ready to move on up to the next level. At this point, your super swimmer will be shown with a 100% score on your Member Hub.
Unlike most swim schools, who generally assess and move swimmers once a term, Sports Nut continually assess swimmers on a weekly basis, meaning that swimmers can continue to progress and be challenged throughout the year!
Moving on Up & Changing Times/Days
When your super swimmer is showing as 100% on Member Hub, they will be ready to move up to the next level within our Award Scheme.
Chances are that one of our super organised office staff will have already clocked that your swimmer is close to moving up and been in touch with you to help plan the move to the next level. Where possible, the move will be seamless and no change of time or day is required!
Moving swimmers between lessons is one of the most challenging and complex areas of our small business…we have around 900 swimmers, meaning there are a huge number of constantly moving parts. Charlotte is in charge of managing all the moves for all of our swimmers and rumour has it she has the ‘Grand Master Jigsaw’ title!
We know that life is busy for most families and juggling multiple kids activities and calendars can be tough…if you would like to try and move your swimmer’s lesson to a different time or day, then do please email us info@sports-nut.co.uk to let us know. We will need to ask you to provide a list of alternative times and days that you can attend, but please be aware it is highly likely that you will be added to a waiting list for a move.
How to Pay & The End of the Journey!
Our group weekly swimming lessons cost £18.00 (inc VAT) per session. In order to secure and retain a space for your super swimmer you will need to add a payment card to your Member Hub. Our swimming lessons are paid for on the 7th of each month and charged a month in advance (for example, payment on 7th August covers lessons taking place in September & payment on 7th September covers lessons taking place in October, and so on. Card details are securely stored by Stripe and payments are also processed by Stripe each month.
On the 1st of each month you will receive an automated invoice by email, detailing the upcoming charges that will be made against your stored payment card on the 7th. We know that sometimes payments fail, cards reach an expiry date etc, so if your payment isn’t successfully processed on the due date, we will be in touch to let you know and provide instructions on how and when to make payment.
Payments are automatically taken each month (except in July) and aren’t something that should take up much time for parents/carers, but we also know that all good things must eventually come to an end! If you feel your Super Swimmer is nearing the end of their Sports Nut journey and you wish to stop lessons, then you need to notify us by email info@sports-nut.co.uk giving us 30 days notice before your final lesson date.
We will of course be very sad to see you go, but we know we will have tried our very, very best to have given your child the best learn to swim experience possible and that the next Sports Nutter is patiently waiting in the wings for their journey to begin!
