At Sports Nut we believe innovation and technology are key components of offering the best learn to swim experience in the country.
Whilst we know that we have the best swimming teachers around, we firmly believe that the learn to swim experience for children can be further enhanced with the use of technology.
Sports Nut is continually looking for ways to further improve swimming lessons and use innovative methods and techniques to offer fun, challenging lessons and ultimately produce safe, competent swimmers who love being in the water!
Over the last 15 years we have embraced the use of technology within our swimming lessons, incorporating video analysis, bone conductor headsets, advanced swimming lesson software, online challenge videos, online progress tracking, stroke technique apps, online catch-up lessons, tempo trainers and many more examples!
We are committed to investing in the latest technology and will continue to look to innovate to ensure the best possible journey for all our swimmers and parents/carers.
Video Analysis
We introduced video analysis into our teaching in 2014 and we find it is particularly effective when teaching children to swim because it provides a visual and interactive way of learning, which can be more engaging and easier to understand for our super swimmers.
Children often find it easier to understand concepts when they can see them. It is said that ‘a picture paints a thousand words’ so just imagine what a video can do! Using video analysis software alongside the guidance of our expert teachers, swimmers are able to understand why and how small technical changes can result in ‘big wins’ in their swimming journey.
We feel that video analysis should be a fun process for children, turning learning into a less intimidating and more enjoyable experience – very much in line with our core values.
Bone Conductor Headsets
Sports Nut made the decision to make a significant investment in Bone Conductor Headsets in 2022 and this has proved to be a revolutionary step in how we teach children to swim.
Our Bone Conductor Headsets are worn by swimmers during their lessons, sitting just above their ears. The headsets enable teachers to communicate with swimmers 100% of the time, even when underwater, as sound transmits through the bones of the skull directly to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrums!
We have found our swimming pool teaching environment has changed significantly since we have introduced our Bone Conductor Headsets, with teachers able to communicate with swimmers in real-time, without the need for shouting or hand signals.
Another key attribute of the headsets is that lessons have become even more efficient, with real-time feedback ensuring more purposeful swimming is completed within a lesson and swimmers understanding instruction and corrective feedback more clearly.
Our Bone Conductor Headsets are hugely popular with both our super swimmers & teachers and are ‘hear’ to stay!
Advanced Swimming Lesson Software
Sports Nut launched their first swimming lesson software (CoursePro) in 2017 and invested in an upgrade to a more advanced software (Swimphony) with even more brilliant features in 2023!
The ability for swimmers and parents to track their swimmers progress via their Member Hub account is one of the most popular features in our software. Swimmers will be able to see how they are progressing through each level with an overall percentage shown, as well as the ability to see which challenges have been completed and which still require more practise!
Our software also enables Sports Nutters to download and print certificates for any of the Award Scheme Levels they have passed.
A unique feature (which is cherished & loved by parents/carers!) of Sports Nut Swim School’s software is the flexibility to be able to make (a limited number of) online absence requests and book catch-up lessons when their swimmer is poorly or has an unavoidable calendar clash.
There are many more features within our Member Hub accounts, including booking spaces on our hugely popular Holiday Crash Courses, view challenge videos, update swimmer details and update payment methods.
Online Challenge Videos
All members of our Sports Nut Swim School are able to access a library of over 80 individual challenge videos across all our Award Scheme levels via their Member Hub account.
We encourage all Sports Nutters (as well as parents/carers) to take advantage of the opportunity to view the challenge videos within their current level, to gain a greater understanding of the skills required to be demonstrated to pass each award.
Each video will show a swimmer demonstrating the challenge and will feature some key technical points to help swimmers master each challenge. We strongly recommend our Sports Nutters and parents/carers to familiarise themselves with the online challenge videos and then take the opportunity to practise our challenges when you go swimming with friends and family!
