Bowled Over

On a balmy summer day in 2005, David (a Business Studies graduate) and Mark (a Sport and Exercise graduate), were playing a leisurely game of cricket.

From the satisfying ‘thwack’ of leather on willow to its many health benefits, such as improving physical fitness and hand-eye co-ordination, Mark and David wondered why more children didn’t take up the sport? Perhaps there weren’t enough fun, professional cricket coaches around…and so, over a crisp cucumber sandwich, the idea for Sports Nut was born.

Knocked for Six

Having now earned their stripes as ECB qualified cricket coaches, for the next four years David and Mark focussed on delivering cricket lessons to children, and they loved it…and so did the children. So much so, that Sports Nut expanded, providing cricket parties, after-school clubs and cricket camps.

Making a Splash

In 2009, David and Mark brought their quirky blend of super-professional yet super-fun coaching techniques to swimming.

Starting out with 15 children, Sports Nut’s Beaconsfield Swim School now teach over 500 children a week, as well as providing regular swimming lessons for adults. That’s a lot of goggles!

Bridging the gap between swimming lessons and club swimmers, Sports Nut also created a dedicated, competitive Swim Squad.

Riding the Olympic Wave

The magic of London 2012 inspired lots of young people to try out more sport. In response to the demand, Sports Nut opened its first Junior Triathlon Club, enabling children to experience a true Triathlon experience with back-to-back swimming, cycling and running. The programme’s popularity led to the start of the first ever local Triathlon event for children. The Junior Triathlon Club now attracts so many participants, it has been extended from one day to two!
